Donald Trump Attacks Kennedy Family on Truth Social Hours After Death of JFK's Granddaughter Tatiana Schlossberg

(People) On Truth Social on the afternoon of Dec. 30, Trump shared screenshots of MAGA supporters insulting the Kennedys for their response to his recent decision to add his own name to the Kennedy Center. Members of the family have claimed that Trump is barred from renaming the center "by federal law," however, work crews have already added his name above JFK's on the historic memorial site. As the Kennedys mourned the untimely death of Tatiana Schlossberg — the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy — Donald Trump took to social media to share posts mocking the famous family.

Kennedy Center changed board rules months before vote to add Trump's name

(Washington Post) The Kennedy Center adopted bylaws earlier this year that limited voting to presidentially appointed trustees, a move that preceded a unanimous decision this month by board members installed by President Donald Trump to add his name to the center. The current bylaws, obtained by The Washington Post, were revised in May to specify that board members designated by Congress — known as ex officio members — could not vote or count toward a quorum. Legal experts say the move may conflict with the institution’s charter.

Trump issues his first vetoes of this term

(CBS News) President Trump used his veto power this week for the first time since returning to the White House, rejecting a pair of bipartisan bills designed to make it easier to build a water pipeline in Colorado and give a Native American tribe more control over a portion of the Everglades. Mr. Trump vetoed the two bills on Monday, the White House announced on X, after they were sent to his desk earlier this month. The bills had backers in both parties, and they passed the House and Senate through voice votes. Both houses of Congress would need to pass the bills again by a two-thirds margin to override the president's veto.

U.S. measles cases reach highest level in over 30 years: CDC

(Axios) The number of recorded measles cases in the U.S. during 2025 has exceeded 2,000 for the first time in more than 30 years, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This year's surge in cases and prolonged outbreaks could cause the U.S. to lose its globally recognized measles "elimination status" for the first time in decades by the end of January 2026.

(Newsweek) Attorney General Pam Bondi has deleted a post after inadvertently highlighting the Biden administration’s success in reducing drug overdose deaths. Bondi posted a chart showing the rate of annual drug overdose deaths nationally and by each U.S. region between October 2015 and October 2024. Trump was inaugurated for his second term in January 2025. The chart posted shows that overall drug deaths dropped between 2023 and 2024, when the Biden administration was in the White House. The chart, from the National Institutes of Health, shows that nationally, drug overdose deaths dropped from around 32.5 per 100,000 people to 25 between October 2023 and October 2024. Across all regions—Northeast, Midwest, South and West—overdose deaths dropped in that period.
