NFL Week 8 notes [View all]
The Bears had done well capitalizing on the mistakes of their opponents during their four game winning streak. The Ravens didn't make very many mistakes, and certainly no big mistakes. Zero turnovers, the running game largely disappeared, and Caleb Williams was not enough to recover from the Bears mistakes, which were many. Fortunately, the next opponent for the Bears are the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Cincinnati Bengals led the 0-7 Jets by 15 points at the beginning of the 4th quarter, and somehow found a way to lose. Their last game was an impressive win over the Steelers. Then they fall in ignominy to the lowly Jets. That was only one of the surprising results of week 8.
The Miami Dolphins beat somebody, to wit the Atlanta Falcons, 34-10. The Falcons are, admittedly, no great shakes, but it's a stunner that the Fins were better than anyone on a Sunday. It's been a long time.
The Houston Texans have had many problems on their offensive line, and it's almost a gimme to pick a respected team like the 49'ers to handle them with ease. Texans won 26-15.
Other games were no surprise, although the final scores were a but surprising. The Bills crushed the Panthers 40-9, the Bucs humiliated the Saints 23-3, the Broncos and the Colts defeated the Cowboys and Titans respectively by three scores. New England and Philadelphia won expected games comfortably. The Packers and Steelers are facing off right now and the Commanders play in Kansas City tomorrow night.
Weeks like this make football interesting.
