Depending on the exact play, it might not matter. Timing is much harder than sensing direction or tops/bottoms. But if the play is long puts and they are long term, then he might lose money on them for a few months and win big cashing them in early 2027 if not sooner.

I've been looking at PLTR options myself, but options are so complicated and numerous that I'm writing a program to help me find strategies and actual trades. I've never done options so I want to be cautious (even if I were experienced) and I don't need to get 100% of a swing to make money.

There are 21 option series on PLTR covering 16 months through to January 2028. Each series has about 120 options, mostly evenly split between puts and calls. Each kind extends from deep in the money to deep out of the money. PLTR is about 188 dollars, and for example the Nov 20, 2026 puts have strike prices from $95 to $390.

PLTR in particular has a stronger bullish position among retail investors than large investors.
