Burry’s Palantir trade is roughly an order of magnitude bigger—and more interesting imo—than the Nvidia puts.

'Big Short' investor Michael Burry is betting big against Nvidia and Palantir

Burry, who rose to fame for his bet against the U.S. housing market before the 2008 crash, appears to have made another major prediction

Michael Burry has disclosed new bets against two of the biggest names in artificial intelligence. … A regulatory filing showed that his hedge fund, Scion Asset Management, has bought put options on Nvidia and Palantir Technologies. Those are contracts that gain value when share prices fall.

Burry rose to fame for his bet against the U.S. housing market before the 2008 crash. He was played by Christian Bale in the resulting movie, "The Big Short," based on Michael Lewis's book.

Debate has intensified in recent weeks over whether the AI rally has become a bubble. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 recently hit record highs even as some investors warn that valuations in the sector are too high.
Scion’s filings show it bet about $187 million against Nvidia and roughly $912 million against Palantir. Both new positions were added in the third quarter.

Days before, Burry posted a warning to retail investors on X. He wrote: “Sometimes, we see bubbles. Sometimes, there is something to do about it. Sometimes, the only winning move is not to play.”

in spite of the Tech bubble in AI. Burry is trying to repeat the same trick. Perhaps that's all he knows.

Depending on the exact play, it might not matter. Timing is much harder than sensing direction or tops/bottoms. But if the play is long puts and they are long term, then he might lose money on them for a few months and win big cashing them in early 2027 if not sooner.

I've been looking at PLTR options myself, but options are so complicated and numerous that I'm writing a program to help me find strategies and actual trades. I've never done options so I want to be cautious (even if I were experienced) and I don't need to get 100% of a swing to make money.

There are 21 option series on PLTR covering 16 months through to January 2028. Each series has about 120 options, mostly evenly split between puts and calls. Each kind extends from deep in the money to deep out of the money. PLTR is about 188 dollars, and for example the Nov 20, 2026 puts have strike prices from $95 to $390.

PLTR in particular has a stronger bullish position among retail investors than large investors.
