ROTC into high schools. I remember some schools were enthusiastic and had kids marching around in uniforms. Some schools were lukewarm and kids could join but not have a physical ROTC presence at the school. We had a couple of "military academies" aka "send your sons for someone else to deal with" that were nearby also. They used to "recruit" with pictures of kids in uniforms marching around with fake guns and blunt swords. Some parents from my school raised hell at a school board meeting when the "guidance counselor" had the local Army recruiter in his office and called in various seniors a few months before graduation.

That might not be much of a big deal if it happened now but during the height of Vietnam it was a line that many parents would not allow to be crossed.
