Parents turn out to oppose Turning Point chapter at Royal Oak High School [View all]
More than two dozen parents have voiced their opposition to a new student group created at Royal Oak High School after some students also held a rally against the organization.
A Turning Point USA student club held its first meeting on Nov. 10, and parents came to the Royal Oak school board's Thursday night meeting to demand that the district take action and ban the chapter from further activities.
Turning Point was founded in 2012 by conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed during a rally at a Utah college in September. According to the organizations website, over 1,000 high schools nationwide have Turning Point clubs or chapters.
The clubs promote freedom loving, American values and students champion these initiatives by organizing into student led chapters and activism hubs," according to the site.
