At the time ELO was dismissed as too lightweight of a band to take seriously, but Jeff Lynne is a freaking writing, arranging, and producing pop genius.

He actually rerecorded some of the songs from that album 30+ years later...and they sound almost identical to the originals. Regardless of what you think about that, or his reasons for doing it, it was really astounding that he could pull it off.
