How had I never heard this song in my life?

So Fine by ELO, just happened to hear it in the car on Sirius and I keep listening to it over and over again despite living the first 34 years of my life not knowing such a song existed.

ELO has some outstanding songs, but I’m hooked on this gem:

https://m.

The ‘ooh la, ooh la, ooh la, ooh la oh’ is just so, so good. I absolutely love that part and the instrumentation.

I instantly recognize most of their 70's Top 40 hits,
but I only ever had one of their albums--
the one with 'Don't Bring Me Down' on it---
which was their last strong 'Top 40' hit, if memory serves---
circa 1978 or 1979

The ONE song which I had often heard the name of,
but went decades without hearing it enough to recall it,
was 'Mr. Blue Sky'!

Now in the last few years, my favorite station which plays 60s-70s-80s music
played it a lot, and I said to myself, "Hey-- that's the song I heard so much about,
but seems that I never heard before!"

I think maybe it was popular on FM rock, before I got really into FM album rock around 1981...

2. That album reminds me of a certain summer...and a certain girl, so it has a special place in my heart.

At the time ELO was dismissed as too lightweight of a band to take seriously, but Jeff Lynne is a freaking writing, arranging, and producing pop genius.

He actually rerecorded some of the songs from that album 30+ years later...and they sound almost identical to the originals. Regardless of what you think about that, or his reasons for doing it, it was really astounding that he could pull it off.

5. Love that song. You might also want to listen to "Do Ya" from same album.

That album tour was my 2nd ever concert, two weeks after my first, Fleetwood Mac Rumours Tour.

The original version was recorded by the Move during the same sessions that the members of the move were recording ELO's first record. I believe you can find the Move's version on YouTube.

A lot of fantastic ELO songs are out there that I was very familiar with.

Somehow, I never heard this one and can’t get enough.

Jeff was the only original member in the very large band but the concert was great and I had tears in my eyes hearing some of my favorite songs performed live.

ELO was my first favorite band when I was in junior high and I still love them now.

I was a fan since their first album. I probably had 8 of their records
I always took issue with the way Jeff recorded the vocals. After seeing them live 3 times, I stuck by my opinion, because the vocals sounded so much better & bigger live.
This song is less egregious, except the vocal is so dry it doesn't fit in the mix like I expect from a guy so skilled.
