3. I know ranchers who won't allow bowhunting on their lands, here in Texas.

They got tired of finding dead deer and dead turkeys that were never retrieved by hunters with poor tracking skills.

The plain and unpleasant fact of the matter is that, even with the best archery equipment and even with accurately-placed arrow shots, there is virtually no such thing as an instant kill of wild game, as there is with a bullet from a high-powered rifle. Animals that are wounded with broadhead arrows don't drop in a lifeless heap---they run off and have to be tracked down, sometimes at considerable distances, and some hunters just aren't very good at that critically-important aspect of bowhunting.

Sorry if the foregoing upsets some of you, but I know whereof I speak. I did some bowhunting when I was young, and I am profoundly grateful now that those hunts were unsuccessful.
