a long-time Democratic election judge, would sit and talk politics with friends, neighbors and (most importantly) his children. I can hear his voice now ... "Remember, sis ... absolute power corrupts absolutely." Hell I didn't know what it meant the first time he said it, but over several conversations he explained it to me. I had it figured out by the time I was 12. Why can't the other adults see it?

On a side note, my dad was a Pendergast man in Kansas City. He worked at City Hall and later the Water Department, and helped provide food, clothing and shoes to widows and orphans in KC during the Depression. To my knowledge he never did anything too heinous (bodily injury, etc). But he saw politics, inside and out, and I listened when he talked.

Thanks, Dad.
