Lord Acton is attributed as saying that "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely".
We have reached that absolute point.
The Executive is abusing his power to such an extent that it is imperative that it be addressed.
He is picking his enemies and choosing the crimes that he wants them to be charged with. He then orders the DOJ and "his" sycophantic Attorney General to prosecute them. It is truly beyond the pale. It is unprecedented in the history of this country.
It has reached the point where he is charging other people with the crimes that he himself has committed. He wants the opposing political Party to be investigated and prosecuted for their association with Jeffrey Epstein, the child rapist and sexual abuser.
Incredibly, he is the person most mentioned by Jeffrey Epstein in his emails. But, he will not be investigated, only the Democrats.
Not only does he need to be impeached, he needs to be convicted and removed from the office of the Presidency. Not only does he need to be removed from office, but he needs to be criminally prosecuted for his abuse of power and his crimes against humanity.
It is for the good of our country and our people. The Republicans in control of Congress must come to their senses.

(114,943 posts)Someone needs to point the finger at the Republicans in charge.
The people will never know unless they are told.
Even then, they will be manipulated by lies and character attacks.

(1,095 posts)a long-time Democratic election judge, would sit and talk politics with friends, neighbors and (most importantly) his children. I can hear his voice now ... "Remember, sis ... absolute power corrupts absolutely." Hell I didn't know what it meant the first time he said it, but over several conversations he explained it to me. I had it figured out by the time I was 12. Why can't the other adults see it?
On a side note, my dad was a Pendergast man in Kansas City. He worked at City Hall and later the Water Department, and helped provide food, clothing and shoes to widows and orphans in KC during the Depression. To my knowledge he never did anything too heinous (bodily injury, etc). But he saw politics, inside and out, and I listened when he talked.
Thanks, Dad.

(12,178 posts)The Orange one has grabbed all power of the Government of the US (only with the help of the robed six) and anointed himself King, emperor of all. Decider of truths, all truths and his truths alone.
All that reject his right to the throne are deemed unworthy of life and must be eliminated at any and all costs.
Unfortunately there are legions waiting to help him achieve his goals.

(Which, BTW, is where he would have been if the cases against him had been allowed to proceed in a normal, timely fashion...geez, the stolen classified docs case alone should have put him in the clink for years, as it has for numerous others. Garland, your stonewalling is your legacy.)

(3,043 posts)... in this context is a cynical euphemism, shorthand for total dominion over the lives of others. It manifests itself in religious zealots as well. Combine religion and politics, and we get the kind of hideous monsters we now see in the Christian Nationalist movement, and other so-called "conservative" sociopathic organizations, such as the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society. NONE of them are "good people", and they sure as hell ain't "Christian".
The Founding Fathers were steadfast in their insistence on the separation of church and state. Their denunciation of ANY suggestion that America was a "Christian" nation was quite vociferous, and left no room for doubt or debate.
Over the past ten months we have seen what unspeakable horrors have been visited upon those less fortunate by a power-mad, greedy psychopath and his malignant minions. It cannot be rationalized, and it cannot be forgiven. We cannot let these vile people poison our country any more than they already have. They MUST be stopped. NO. MORE. CAPITULATION! The importance of preserving democracy supersedes any self-centered concerns for re-election.
Republicans will never "come to their senses". They have always detested the very concept of democracy, and our history is replete with instances of their despicable perfidy, so we can flush any hope of that Pollyannic dream down one of Trump's golden toilets. They have no honor, or they wouldn't be Republicans, so don't ever make the mistake of trusting them any further than you can throw a dump truck.
