Trump is rapidly weakening and he could no longer threaten sitting Republicans with primaries by ever far right candidates in order to keep them in line. They began to realize that the real threat to their seats were Democrats defeating them because of their mindless support of Trump. Therefore, many Republicans were ready to join the Democrats in order to break the shut down to keep their seats. They were beginning to pressure Johnson to reopen the House. Senate Republicans were also making similar noises because they realized that they were losing the shut down / SNAP debate to the Democrats. All of that was going to result in negotiations with the Democrats on those issues in order to produce a bill to reopen the government. The pressure on Trump would rapidly become so powerful he would be forced to sign the bill. The Democrats would be handed a great political victory that they could campaign on.

Little did I know that three days later eight Democratic Quislings would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and sell out.
