Republicans plunge into 'complete mess' as MAGA heirs start war: insider
https://www.rawstory.com/trump-complete-mess/
I think he always crafted this really unwieldy coalition for 2024 that was probably unsustainable, (conservative columnist Matt Lewis) began. I think, physically, he's just not up to it anymore, to the degree that he was able to kind of impose his will on people. He knows he doesn't have the energy, maybe physically.
But I also think there's something else here, he added. Donald Trump used to go around the country doing these rallies all the time, and it was sort of a focus group. He would say something crazy, the audience would either respond positively or negatively, and it helped him craft his message to appeal to kind of a populist constituency. I don't think he has that now.
Vitali asked, So ultimately, where do you think that this goes next, as the party is actively grappling with being post-Trump, even as it is very much amid the Trump era?
This is going to be a complete mess, right? Lewis laughed. Because you've got a few dynamics happening. First, people are running for 2028, whether they admit to it or not. I mean, they're going to start jockeying for position and the way you jockey for position is not to be the same, because, if everyone is identical, then JD Vance is the obvious heir apparent.

(3,972 posts)the guy who has no shame to say horrendous things about other people, be foes or friends, he doesn't care, and you have nothing because trump's rise has been nothing but noise, a noise that deplorable ignorant enjoy but do not comprehend the consequences of it all. The deplorable are people walking around with a ingrown toenail, bleeding, but refuse to go to a doctor to get it fixed because they don't know any better.
So yes, when the head is gone, so is the party, and I don't think JD Vance is a good replacement, he is not well liked within the MAGA circles, they may put up with him for a while, but they will not listen to him, they will try to remove him.
Hopefully, it is the end of the republican party as we know it. My only doubts is that the republican youth is made up of awful people, it will take a long time to purge the party of the trash that it is today their solid base and their solid so called "leaders".

(34,552 posts)You don't see many Branch Davidians or People's Temple members around these days. Or, Manson Family members, for that matter. In MAGA's case, we can also add that there is no honor among thieves. It's a cult full of scummy people, and Dear Leader's demise will create a power vacuum, where the awful people will fight amongst themselves to fill it. Which never ends well for any of them, especially since this is also the most stupid cult to ever exist.

I'd love the Kanamits "To Serve Man"

This one.

(31 posts)The funniest part is that none of this is surprising. A movement built on grievance, paranoia, and loyalty tests was always going to implode the second the "leader" wasn't physically capable of holding it together. Once Trump isn't able to run the show 24/7, the internal contradictions just explode on their own.

(20,895 posts)...but it's a valid point. Their absence and "Low-Energy Don" is in stark contrast to Term 1.
Also, a number of his moves in 2025 DID NOT RESULT in high-fives from the MAGAts. You don't have to go far to find one of them saying "I voted for you, BUT..."
And, the vultures have already been circling. There was an article a couple of weeks ago from Don Jr, positioning himself as "the obvious heir to the throne."

(334 posts)is way too soon. We have been hearing about the "end of Trump" since the beginning of Trump.
I feverishly hope that he is unraveling, but right now he is lying, harassing, name calling, blaming and partying his ass off with ostentatious celebrations every few days.
His primary focus right now is attacking non-White people, punishing his political enemies and stealing or stopping the '26 elections.
It's going to be awhile before we can pop the corks on our champagne and dance in the street.

(20,895 posts)What I am saying is what I believe to be true. Everyone who believes that they are the "heir to the throne" is licking their reptilian lips.
That has nothing to do with Trump's shelf life. If he lives for another three years, he'll spend that time inflicting as much damage on America as he can.
And, by the same token, that doesn't mean that the vultures aren't eyeballing life after Trump.

(12,057 posts)"Right-wing populists" get political support by demagoguery, preying on the fears, prejudices, and resentments of the populace, making promises about how they will fix everything by returning to an imaginary prior greatness and reasserting the superiority of the "tribe," but they really shouldn't be called populists if they don't actually give a shit about the welfare of the populace while selling favors to oligarchs and plutocrats.

(1,777 posts)Trump is rapidly weakening and he could no longer threaten sitting Republicans with primaries by ever far right candidates in order to keep them in line. They began to realize that the real threat to their seats were Democrats defeating them because of their mindless support of Trump. Therefore, many Republicans were ready to join the Democrats in order to break the shut down to keep their seats. They were beginning to pressure Johnson to reopen the House. Senate Republicans were also making similar noises because they realized that they were losing the shut down / SNAP debate to the Democrats. All of that was going to result in negotiations with the Democrats on those issues in order to produce a bill to reopen the government. The pressure on Trump would rapidly become so powerful he would be forced to sign the bill. The Democrats would be handed a great political victory that they could campaign on.
Little did I know that three days later eight Democratic Quislings would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and sell out.
This Rawstory article complete supports the theory that Trump has become much weaker. He no longer wields the fear factor. There is a civil war actually in progress among the MAGAts. There was absolutely no need for the Democrats to bend the knee. They were winning.

(20,895 posts)The issue isn't so much that the 8 Democrats voted with the Republicans to achieve a necessary victory.
It's that they walked away with absolutely nothing. And the public was starting to finally see what was at stake, and that Democrats were holding out to RENEW the tax credits, and that Republicans want them to expire so that they can re-direct the funds to Musk, Zuckerberg, Thiel, and Bezos.
I'm not "bashing Dems," and I know you aren't either. i simply refuse to "defend" the votes of those 8 Democrats.

(1,777 posts)However, as Olbermann said this morning, as Trump is pushed ever farther into the last corner, the more likely he is to do something utterly crazy. Starting a war comes to mind. The bigger question is, with who?

(20,895 posts)And, if the "world community" determines that he has taken an unprovoked act of aggression and has committed a war crime, there is no way of knowing what other nation(s) might step in to defend them.
I'd say believe his niece Mary Trump when she says "If he goes down, it won't be alone."
