See: Gerald Ford, the only president who was not elected.

Nixon's VP, Spiro Agnew resigned due to scandal. Ford was nominated by Nixon and approved by Congress and became the VP. When Nixon resigned because of Watergate, Ford became President.

I believe that no VP who rose to be President because the Pres was forced out or assasinated has been re-elected to be Pres. The only VP who stepped up after gaining the Presidency was Truman, who became Pres in 45 when FDR died, and then was elected to another term in 48.
