Violating laws on demotion and remediation are a big fucking deal because of the risks to the people doing the work and in the surrounding area.
Take with whatever grains of salt you apply to all AI, but here's what Gemini had to say.
Question 1: How long after improperly demolishing a large structure with asbestos do the dust and fibers endanger people within a mile radius?
Asbestos fibers can remain airborne for 48 to 72 hours after being disturbed, but wind and air currents can carry them further and keep them suspended for longer periods. Even if the initial dust settles, the fibers can be re-suspended and drift for an indeterminate distance and time frame depending on weather and environmental conditions. Therefore, improper demolition of a large asbestos-containing structure poses an ongoing, long-term danger to people within a mile radius, as fibers can travel with the wind, settle, and be disturbed again.
Question 2: How long after improperly demolishing a large structure with asbestos do the dust and fibers endanger people within a three-mile radius?
Asbestos fibers released during improper demolition can endanger people within a three-mile radius almost immediately and the risk can persist for hours, days, or even weeks after the initial event, depending on environmental factors. There is no known safe level of asbestos exposure.
On edit: Class action suit on behalf of everyone who lives, works, or visited the vicinity for the pain and suffering caused by fears related to having been exposed and a fund for direct compensation and pain and suffering of those who become ill in the future.
Another edit:
Still no information on regulatory compliance

You're correct that it's quite likely there was asbestos in one form or another.
