In reply to the discussion: At the same time the NY Times... [View all]jfz9580m
(16,159 posts)8. The NYT is one of the very worst papers out there
Except for Paul Krugman, they have pretty much always sucked. And Kristof is ..eh..he is a bit douchey but that aside not bad.

Chomsky nailed them:
In their book Manufacturing Consent (1988), Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky analyze major U.S. media outlets, with an emphasis on The Times. They believe that a bias exists which is neither liberal nor conservative in nature, but aligned towards the interests of corporations, which own most of these media outlets and also provide the majority of their advertising revenue. The authors explain that this bias functions in all sorts of ways:[91]
"by selection of topics, by distribution of concerns, by emphasis and framing of issues, by filtering of information, by bounding of debate within certain limits. They determine, they select, they shape, they control, they restrict in order to serve the interests of dominant, elite groups in the society."[92]
Chomsky and Herman also touch on the importance of this perceived bias in The Times:
"history is what appears in The New York Times archives; the place where people will go to find out what happened is The New York Times. Therefore it's extremely important if history is going to be shaped in an appropriate way, that certain things appear, certain things not appear, certain questions be asked, other questions be ignored, and that issues be framed in a particular fashion."[92]

Its also why like The Atlantic they shaped the popular and disastrous for earth worldview that any limits to growth are imaginary.

They are Cornucopian fantasists and douchey assholes as well. They also peddle Reefer Madness and promote sleazy anti-psychiatry influencers like Laura Delano.
Thats the level of their sleazy commitment to crassness and conservatism. They will on the one hand peddle Reefer Madness from the worst type of establishment friendly shrinks like the douchebags you would find at Stanford Psychiatry (Keith Humphreys, Smita Das, Nina Vasan, that Woebot woman)- it should not be acceptable to be in bed with data mining and defense contracting giants like Google, Palantir etc and also peddle narcotics war propaganda and coercive psychiatry. Like thats a conflict of interest right there. On the other hand, they will also promote sleazy anti-psychiatry influencers like Laura Delano. They are a disgrace and its not surprising that they underplayed Hitler.
They are to journalism what Stanford psychiatry is to psychiatry. A few legit elites like Steve Chu aside, Stanford itself is pretty douchey overall. They are -like Gates, the NYT, The Atlantic etc, this stale stagnant hoary pseudo elite conservatives who are misrepresented as the liberal elite or even more laughably radical left by MAGA and MAHA types. Krugman was the last legit liberal they had.

there was a lot more than that, including one where the notorious pedophile said TRUMP WAS EVIL BEYOND BELIEF

I'm not so concerned about what that reporter wrote about Epstein as what he wrote about Trump

The point about Landon and Epstein is that in 2016, we knew who Epstein was -- a major pedo rapist--
