Colosseum

The Colosseum, or Flavian Amphitheatre, is a monumental arena in Rome built during the Flavian dynasty, primarily under emperors Vespasian and Titus, between 72 and 80 AD. It served as a venue for gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, and other public spectacles for over four centuries.

Construction and Purpose:

The Colosseum was a gift to the Roman citizens, symbolizing the emperors' might and generosity.

Vespasian initiated the construction, aiming to revitalize Rome after the tumultuous year of 69 CE.

It was designed to be an entertainment venue, hosting a variety of events, including gladiatorial fights, animal hunts, and even mock naval battles (some of these events are speculative).
