But the USA was enjoying an economy that was "the envy of the world" (The Economist) when we elected our tyrant.

Full employment, falling inflation, strong dollar, the richest country in the history of the world.

Republicans just convinced people the sky was falling, when all indications point to the contrary.

Germans voted for a radical turn towards tyranny largely because they were in dire economic straits. Americans don't have even that fig-leaf of an excuse. We voted for tyranny because we have so many ignorant people that have been conned into thinking our most put-upon and aggrieved minorities are victimizing them, instead of recognizing that the main problems of our society are being propagated by the greed of a few thousand rich people and their enablers.
