(30,613 posts)But here's what I really mean. I'm a Democrat. Because I'm old, the Party I grew up with was very liberal, very justice oriented. Those beliefs are deeply embedded in my soul. I will never be ashamed of expressing my desire for my Party to be proudly liberal, decent, and supportive of working people and poor people.
However, it appears to me that some Bernie supporters came at this from a somewhat different direction. They never knew the Party I grew up with. They don't see themselves as Democrats, the way I do. They probably don't feel any loyalty to the Party, but if it looks like the Party's candidate might give them a break, they'd be willing to give it a try. Calling the Democrats here names and accusing us of disloyalty, because some non-Democrats also happen to support Bernie, and also have a tenuous (at best) connection to our Party, is worse than pointless. You are attacking your allies. As DU Democrats, we are going to vote blue despite your attacks, not because of them. Non-Democratic Bernie supporters who happen across this forum are likely to get an extremely negative impression of what Biden supporters are all about. We can't afford to let that happen.
We know that Trumputin/Moscow Mitch are plotting furiously to steal this election. To "win," they will exploit anything they can, no matter how depraved, up to and including the deaths of millions of Americans in a pandemic. So we need every possible vote we can get, from every possible nook and cranny of the American electorate. It is worse than annoying to attack allies when in a battle for the survival of the country. It is a good way to lose.

primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
