(77,373 posts)that I'd live long enough to see any year that could compete with 1968. What a combination of beauty and madness. I remember listening to The Beatles (the White Album) with a friend, and not being sure of the intended message of Revolution9. But, looking back, it sure summed up the times.
I'm in complete agreement on the presidents .... I'd include Bush the Elder .....and I certainly remember being fully confident on the night Nixon resigned that the long national nightmare was over. It's become a recuring nightmare, though.
It seems to me that today, a growing number of people are becoming increasingly aware that the American economic machine depends upon those at or towards the bottom to operate. The clerks in the check-out line in the grocery store, for example. That same dynamic is found in the social-political system. And so I agree 100% that our nation's future depends upon us. No "leader" is going to save us by doing for us what we can, should, and must be doing -- though the wrong people in leadership positions can push us towards extinction.

primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
