In reply to the discussion: Michelle Obama MUST accept the VP nomination! [View all]grantcart
(53,061 posts)35. For the record FDR did not pick Truman
The choice of VP during the FDR years was still controlled by the machines that ran the convention. FDR wanted Wallace off and personally preferred Justice William Douglas.
The machines moved against Wallace and a number of candidates were put up to compete on the convention floor and Truman was scheduled to nominate one.
Truman had garnered tremendous respect across the country for the Truman Committee and different key city leaders started to change to Truman.
FDR was asked his opinion and advised either Douglas or Truman would be OK. Had the convention wanted someone else FDR would have had to accept though everyone preferred consensus.
In any case FDR did not "pick" Truman.

primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

re: "the VP is largely a symbolic post" - but she has to be ready to be president...

i think people are rooting for her to take a political role precisely because she's not eager for it

No... She's not qualified. However much we may like her, she has ZERO experience in office. n/t

This is an asinine opinion. She is not a politician and has no place running for VP
