2. The "new energy" is going to be a patchwork that includes power plants

unless someone invents a cheap, easy to produce battery that can store solar energy in places in the country that don't see the sun for a week at a time in the winter or that experience periods of dead calm that render wind generators unusable. Cars will be urban-suburban electrics and rural fossil fuels. It will work, this patchwork of solutions, putting far less carbon into the air while another patchwork of biological and chemical solutions will remove the CO2 that's already there.

No solution is going to be perfect and none will work 100% of the time. We need to be proactive at home, too, trying to shave every watt off our household usage that we can, and that means energy efficient everything.
