Update: My 100 y/o stepdad fell & broke his hip yesterday. He's having surgery this morning at 8:30a [View all]

He was walking (shuffling) in his slippers and tripped. The doctor said he broke the top of his left femur.

I don't think my 90 y/o mom realizes the gravity of the situation since they have always been very healthy. She seemed to think he was going to have the surgery today then they would go back to their apartment tonight.

I don't know what they're going to do about putting him in rehab. I JUST got her to stop driving when they moved into independent/assisted living 3 months ago but she still has her car. Now I'm afraid she's going to try to drive back & forth to wherever he goes. They're in Port Orange, FL & I'm 500 miles away.
