The NRA are no longer a body representing gun owners but a body that acts to push the craziest right-wing memes into the mainstream, it's the modern, socially acceptable face of conspiranoia.

(Note: The phrase "gun nuts" should not be taken to include all, or even most, gun owners. It is intended to describe the oppose-any-regulation-whatsoever-of-any-kind, "cold dead hands" fanatics).
