there are some excellent US born Buddhist Monks, like Bhikku Nyanasobhano, who are bringing out the intricacies of the Buddha's teaching, to modern society. another is Bhikku Bodhi (lay name: Jeffrey Block), a founder of the Buddhist Global Relief Org. & a former president of the BPS (which published the above essay), who is also doing yeoman work in this respect. i heard his keynote address to the UN, at their 2012 Vesak celebration which i attended; it was the best part of the occasion.
