4. Monsanto is not blameless. They HAVE been a bit heavy-handed sometimes

in how they implemented technology agreements with farmers. And the attempt to introduce Bt potatoes into the Republic or Georgia (NewLeaf GM potato) was apparently a disaster because the potatoes were unusually susceptible to late blight - (Phytophthera infestans). According to some Georgia scientists I talked to, many farmers had whole crops wiped out and it set them back significantly, to the point that GMO and Monsanto are both unpopular with farmers in Georgia. This kind of mistake is really inexcusable for a company of Monsanto's status.

However, having said all that, the idea that Monsanto is evil personified in nonsense. They are a big company trying to make profits. They screw up sometimes, but it is not some grand conspiracy.
