the earth being 6000 years old. The 6000 year old claim comes from a few individuals who have tried to calculate the age of the earth based on various Biblical details, like adding up the ages of men named in the OT as descendants of Adam, historical dates for ancient kingdoms mentioned, etc.

It is, of course, based on literal acceptance of the Biblical stories, but not on specific statements within the Bible of the earth being 6000 years old.
