4. I've seen this after gead injury

Guy was as ordinary as you can get, factory job. After the injury, he tested genius level in an area he claimed to have been a dunce in through school. Another one started to speak perfect Polish. One set of grandparents was Polish, but they'd always spoken nothing but English around their kids and grandkids. It happens and one theory is that the injured brain somehow gets out of its own way, allowing the uninjured parts to overcompensate.

It's rare, though, and certainly nothing anyone can count on.
