The patriots deflated the balls AFTER a ref checked them. They had control of the balls.

Putting them in "trunks" keeps them away from the teams. Temp control is a plus, but it wasn't needed until the patriots were found to have cheated.

Theirs wasn't a case of temp changes causing a pressure drop in the balls. They were found to have deflated them with a needle.

What part of they cheated isn't clear?
