to distract and redirect the focus of the hearing from scrutiny of his criminal behavior to enlisting sympathy for his alleged diagnosis of Parkinson's. A brilliant PR move because the media subsequently ignored the actual reason he was testifying. Also, no one forced him to play football and he was handsomely rewarded for doing so.
