Paris 1919: Six Months That Changed the World by Margaret MacMillan. A very good look at what went down during the making of the various peace treaties with Germany at the end of the First World War, and that helped set the stage for the second.

At the other end, Martin Gilbert's The Day the War Ended is interesting, as is his Auschwitz and the Allies.
