The story is about a private detective who is at a stop light, late at night, when a teenage girl, Claire, standing in the rain outside a bar taps on his window. He knows he shouldn't give her a ride and when he rolls down the car window Claire recognizes him a the father of a student, Scott, in her class. Scott jumped or was pushed off the roof of the department store he worked at while he was on drugs two months earlier. He gives her a ride to her home and during the ride she asks him to stop at a local burger place because she's going to be sick. She runs into the restaurant and after 10 minutes he goes looking for her but doesn't find her. He gets back in the car and Claire is there. A minute after leaving he realizes that isn't Claire and starts interrogating the girl. She threatens to start screaming if he doesn't let her out. He does and she runs off into the rainy night. Now he's determined to find Claire and figure out why she and the other girl traded places.
