My Dad used the 3 sisters and taught me. He also taught me to grow broccoli by potatoes because one is protective and beneficial to the other.

Monty Don used the 3 sisters on his show as a presentation for his viewers and examined how it worked and why corn, squash and beans were a benefit to each other.
