I will have to play around with all of those recipes and see which comes closest! I REALLY appreciate your taking the time and trouble to do this!

I do remember that the cookies were really big, and they were soft. Definitely coconut and peanut butter in them, maybe some oats, but I couldn't swear by it. And my grandmother was from the days where they put shortening in everything, so I'm guessing there might have been some of that in there.

Probably the closest I've ever tasted was Mrs Fields coconut cookies. I thought that all they needed to do was toss in some peanut butter and that might have been as close as it could come.

Every time I visited her, my grandmother had those cookies waiting for me. I can still taste them and smell them, but I haven't eaten one since I was around 13 years old. Why I never asked my mom to get the recipe when my grandmother was alive, I'll never know. It might have had something to do with the fact that my mom always said she never liked her mom's cooking, but I loved my grandmother's cooking.

And oh, could she bake! Everything from scratch. But it was always ready to eat when we got there, so I never saw what she did.

When my grandmother passed away, I was heartbroken.
I asked if I could have one thing that belonged to her.
Her cookie jar. I still have it.
