He also had no reputation for being opposed to abortion prior to running for the GOP presidential nomination. But now he just loves to brag about the overturn of Roe v. Wade and "returning abortion to the states," as if it's a great accomplishment that he did singlehandedly. 
This sort of thing is easy for him. Having absolutely no principles of his own, he's happy to take whatever stance he thinks will get him the most votes.
