We just saved 100.00 last month off our power bill. [View all]
We bought a fairly solid 50 year old brick home 7 years ago.
It has a heat pump for cooling and heating.
The thermostat to that unit was pretty old, and no matter where I set it, the heat pump would kick in again and run for quite a long time, winter or summer.
Got the unit "winterized" 6 weeks ago and had them put in a new thermostat, which not only works so much better but looks better.
Power bill came yesterday. $100.00 lower compared to comparable temps last year, and lowest bill we have had.
I have noticed the heat pump has not been running very much, compared to before the thermostat switch out.
We do other energy saving things, of course, including using small oil filled heaters in the 2 coolest rooms instead of trying the heat the whole house to keep those rooms warm.
and we have good weather stripping on the front door, have double paned windows, insulation in the attic, etc.
but all those energy aids were long before the thermostat replacement.
Simple little investment like a thermostat...who'da thunk it?
