recovery

It is fascinating to think that nearly three-quarters of our world lies beneath the waves, unseen to the human eye. It is also terrifying to realize how little of it we truly understand. The famous Sir David Attenborough must feel the same, as he begins his newest documentary with a heavy statement: “After living for nearly one hundred years on this planet, I now understand the most important place is not on land… but at sea.”

Over the course of his life, Attenborough has spent most of his time documenting the natural world. His famous voice has taught and influenced millions.

Now, at ninety-nine years of age, he takes one final opportunity to make sense of the oceans and the stories they hold in Ocean with David Attenborough.

My very first impression of the documentary was how beautifully, beautifully it was shot. The camera work is so stunning — and so smart in places — that at times I found it quite hard to believe what I was seeing is real.
