6. Have you called the IRS? The wait times are astronomical BUT

I have found them to be relatively helpful. I would hope this is something that could get sorted out within the IRS and hopefully by an agent on the toll-free number.

Yes, the hold times are abysmal (and this was before the pandemic). Just put your phone on the speaker and the headset and tend to other stuff while you're waiting (best to do it at your home or office where you're going to be for a decent amount of time).
