Other than a number of teachers jumping to some assumptions about something tragic having happened most of the issues were confined to international travel and being held up at customs by immigration officers both in the US and abroad (Vancouver was particularly bad) who suspected an abduction.

By the time I was thirteen or fourteen I just started going through customs by myself.
