Still, self-censoring in the name of sparing people's feelings doesn't help anybody either - because, for instance, conservatives use race, or more specifically the supposedly pernicious phenomenon of "reverse racism," to stir up (and exploit) the innate selfishness and racial paranoia of the white American right-winger.

I understand what you're saying, but we have to be able to talk candidly about race - and gender, and sexuality, and social class, etc. etc. - because otherwise we're essentially letting the other side win.
