What are you favorite Christmas songs? [View all]
I can't pick one.
I'm mostly a rock and roll kind of guy, and agnostic at best, but this song gets me *right here*.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas was written in the 40's for Judy Garland. It was written at a time during which nothing was certain and most families had lost someone. People didn't know what the future was going to hold and the lyrics "we'll have to muddle through somehow" reflected that. They were considered too downbeat for the studio heads... so they rewrote them. James Taylor re-recorded the song with the original lyrics - appropriate for 2006.
Handel's Messiah.
I hope
you are all having a wonderful Christmas. Our family tradition is a deliberately low key affair financially, giving us an opportunity to reflect on how fortunate and blessed we are. Worrying about how to pay for it destroys the joy. We cherish the opportunity to spend time with family, friends and "acquantances at loose ends", but especially with our kids and their families.
I hope that you and your families have a wonderful day.
