.... but you don't fit my definition of someone on the far left. Pragmatism is not a trait any of the zealots on the far left share. Look, I personally share many of your goals and I am sure many in the HC Group do as well. However, goals alone don't make us who we are.
Those that I classify as "far left" consider themselves ideologically pure and totally right; everyone who disagrees with them in the slightest is totally wrong. Consequently, they cannot bring themselves to compromise which means they have cut themselves off from seizing small victories. Because they rarely win, they must rationalize why they don't win. Conspiracy theories and the "system is rigged" narrative become their easy outs. They favor revolution; they want it all now; they want to turn the system on it's head. Not only to they see incremental steps towards their goals as unsatisfactory, they seem to act as if incremental improvements actually run counter to the achievement of their goals. After all, incremental changes remove much of the pain of a situation and more pain a situation causes, the more they believe they can convince others that a revolution is necessary. Most of these people have abandoned or will abandon the Democratic party as too pedestrian and pragmatic. They only come back when a "perfect candidate" is running for office.
If you think this state of mind isn't limited to the zealots on the far left, you're right. This also is an almost perfect description of the zealots on the far right. They are distorted mirror images of one another.
I sincerely hope my views don't offend you, but I consider you a true Democrat and a asset of our party.
