I got an update as to what happened at the Indiana Democratic State Convention today. [View all]
I wasn't able to stay for the whole thing but a friend of mine let me in on what happened.
First, he lost to be a Sanders national convention delegate. I and a few of us in labor decided to vote for the Sanders ballot instead of the Clinton ballot. We were looking to send as many labor as possible to the convention. There weren't any from labor elected for either candidate. The expected and acceptable delegates for Clinton got elected. It appears that they have clueless people going for Sanders.
Second, an officer of our District Party submitted 3 resolutions that worked against the DNC to the Resolution committee and they were shot down. He is a Sanders supporter. As told to me he made himself out as an expert on Roberts Rules. He wasn't. The resolutions were also shot down on the floor. They didn't know how to present motions or anything. I've had problems with the guy and I will be working to have him defeated at the next reorganization.
Third, the person that we tried to go as a Sanders delegate considers the Sanders state convention delegates to be mostly crazies. When making calls to get support from them before the convention he was getting negative responses. Some of them would say they were pledged to the other delegate. The winner was very cold when the friend went to congratulate him.
Fourth, the friend did win to be a Presidential Elector despite the District Chair running someone against him. She has been doing a poor job as the chair and is a Bernie supporter. She failed to recruit a credible candidate for the congressional district. Even failing to campaign for the person that was endorsed by the district. Generally, in our state Presidential Electors are uncontested. But she has made a point of getting a challenger in 2008 that was one of those Lunch Pail Republicans and now in 2016.
We will have a lot of hard work to do in our district this year and then getting reorganized next year.
