I haven't owned a gun for years, because when my children were small, I had no SAFE place to store them. When I did have guns, they were rifles.

Assault weapons do not belong in the hands of civilians, EVER. I have people in my family that are currently law enforcement, some are retired. Many veterans as well. You know what? NONE of them own this kind of weapon. They've all said the same thing we've all said, which is that the purpose of this kind of weapon is to kill people.

Something ELSE which really gets to me with this, is the lack of respect for firearms in general that I see from people we'd call "gun nuts". I was raised to have a healthy respect for them, BECAUSE of the kind of damage they cause when used against a target. In my case, it was learning how to hunt. Why is this important? IF, when hunting, you want to use all parts of the animal, INCLUDING the pelt, you have to mindful of the caliber you're using, the size of the game, and what kind of ammunition you're going to use.

I cannot for the LIFE of me understand this attitude of what I see that guns are big boy toys. I don't get it, nor do I WANT to.
