Back then a 'large group' would have a couple K of peeps. We started and closed a few of them. I've collected and booted easily 10k of 'friends' there. FB used to have a 5K limit on the amount of friends. Down to less than 500 now I think, lots fewer that are regular chatters. I set my privacy tight there and don't accept new friends easily and not at all if I can't see their account.
FB history is relatively short, but this election season has been very harsh with rhetoric.
BTW, if you go troll a candidate and post what a dick they are, such as Ted Cruz, FB will sometimes put you in FB jail where you cannot post for awhile.
Just saying.
