When was watching her interview and contemplating how far we have come and yet how far we have to go I could not help but have tears well up in my eyes.

When I entered first grade in my small southern town my class was the first class that would be fully integrated starting with us in first grade. Until that time, and this was the '70s, our county schools had still been segregated. Of course, as a first-grader I had no idea of the significance of this or that it was even happening. We were all just frightened kids entering school for the first time and we didn't much pay attention to which race we all came.
