panhandle of Florida. We live only a few short miles of Alabamy & Georgia.
Do the math.............
To give you an idea of how red, I'll share a story with you.
Back in Oct. of 2008, I had the most amazing experience of my life; no exaggeration. Michelle Obama was scheduled to speak at the our Bay Civics Center in Pensacola, FL. I about went nuts when I read it!

Well, my dil and I went more than three hours ahead of the scheduled time. But it took us almost a half hour to find a parking space first.
After parking, while walking to the auditorium, We noticed that there were more plates from out of state or from SE coast of Fl counties. But not many locally.
It didn't take us long, before we found the end of the line, but not quite in sight of the Civics Center yet.
It also didn't take long to see we were in the minority
My dil is and looks American Indian and I am a tall, blonde Slavic type.... Very white.
But in an even shorter time, there was no recognition of color, race, gender - zip.
The electricity running through that crowd inching along in almost a mile long line was palatable! We were all bound with the same bond; the love and admiration of Obama and his wife Michelle and the need and desire over a broken country, for a true leader who the people knew we could trust.
When we finally got in, we got some decent seats, up a tier to the right of the stage. The place just kept filling up for another hour. It was soon sardines! I looked around and saw there was barely standing room only.
From my view, I was heartened to see many more whites, than before. I couldn't help not think, that not all whites in the south are sheep, thank God.
If I felt something so unbelievable in the air, outside; it was no comparison to what was inside. The closest thing of joy and excitement, would be when giving birth to my first child. Now that is a high first, ranking way above. But after that? Michelle and the day Obama became our President.....
But that day listening to the crowd and then Michelle herself, still gives me the chills (the good kind) whenever I think of it. And listening to these videos, bring tears to my eyes. I'm crying now, writing this.
Her speech was beyond amazing. The crowd yelling, "Yes we can!! YES, WE CAN!!! Up on our feet, all of one unity that transcended all the outer trappings, heart beating so fast with joy and hope and expected change. Someone to believe in! That was what Michelle represented so beautifully and made us so very proud to be a part of her and her husband's run.
She was so accessible, if you get what I'm saying.... I would not have had a qualm about walking up to her, putting my hand out or going to hug her. Then after, I probably would have fainted, dead away....
Little was made of her visit here in the local media. Much was maligned about it. In fact I did a search just now for a local paper story, but couldn't find one......... I wanted to get an accurate number of people there. I think it was between 800 - 1200, but not sure. There was a large section that the center owners refused to open. I know that there were still a few hundred outside, who sadly didn't make it in. But Michelle came out to them, after her speech to speak to them for a half hour!! How just like her !
That was the next most memorable experience of my life. And I have never recovered from it. And I doubt I ever will or would want to.
These give a fair idea of that extremely rare, incredible day, here in blood red Pensacola, Fl.
