2. I would not go with lacy ones if you need privacy.

I have lacy ones in my bathroom, but I also have a window shade to pull down at night. But in my kitchen, I use semi-sheer café curtains that have a lacy look with the embroidery on them, and they do provide privacy. I open them up in the day and close them at night. Remember though, café curtains will never completely cover the windows since part of the window will not be covered. I would not use them in the bedroom or bathroom without a shade to pull down at night.
