Charleston to get its first 'Ladies' Bar' [View all]

Even with restaurants opening in Charleston at breakneck pace, local food-and-beverage conversations still sometimes turn to what the dining scene is missing. One type of venue that rarely comes up is a “ladies’ bar.” And with the Hotel Bennett next year opening alongside Marion Square, it’s unlikely ever to surface.

“Hotel Bennett will feature Charleston’s first classic Ladies Bar, featuring an etched-mirrored ceiling and reclaimed pink marble from the former Charleston Library for its floor, bar and table tops,” a press release for the project promises.

According to spokesman Matt Owen, Camellia’s will complement a lobby bar and rooftop bar, which were planned with drinkers of both genders in mind. Camellia’s “is intended to feel comfortable and inviting, particularly for women, and contrasts with the more masculine design of most other bars,” he says.

The menu for Camellia’s is still in the works, but Owen predicts it will comprise “a fun and large craft cocktail program.”
