State tells Greenville County to drop voting questionnaire for college students [View all]

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina Elections Commission has told Greenville County to stop using a questionnaire to determine if college students can register to vote.

Three Furman University students have sued Greenville County, saying they should not be required to answer questions they consider invasive before being allowed to register to vote, using campus address. A hearing is set Thursday.

Greenville County is the only one in South Carolina that doesn’t allow students to use a campus address to register to vote.

The state election commission told the Greenville County Election Commission the 11-question form violates state law and election commission policy.
